Namibia

The Namib Sand Sea is a unique coastal fog desert encompassing a diverse array of large, shifting dunes. This is the world’s oldest desert. If you love nature, then Namibia should be on your bucket list.
Mozambique
Need I say more? Mozambique is one of Africa’s finest! The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of 6 islands off the coast of southern Mozambique. Perfect spot for your dream vacation!
Tunisia
Sidi Bou Said is a town in northern Tunisia located about 20 km from the capital, Tunis. The town itself is a tourist attraction and is known for its extensive use of blue and white paintings. Its scenic nature makes it a perfect destination for luxe travelers. I call it Africa’s very own Santorini.
Sao Tome
Forbidding, mysterious, beautiful. Sao Tome and Principe haven’t much arable land, but the islands’ rocky peaks and underwater coral foundations are a sight for everyone’s bucket list. The Island at the Center of the World boasts of quiet beaches and the best chocolate!
Jordan
The Monastery of Petra, Jordan. This place is an incredible blend of human construction and landscape to make something distinctive, and actually spellbinding. It was built by the Nabataean people, who became rich by dominating the lucrative trade route across the desert 2000-year-ago. Archeologists have only excavated a fraction of Petra. An entirely new building has been identified hidden under the sand. Petra is perfect for an adventurous traveler.
Mauritius
Vibrant rainbows, jagged peaks, and the turquoise water of the Indian Ocean. Welcome to paradise on earth! Mauritius Island should definitely be at the top of your list of destinations in Africa to travel just because!
Egypt
Egypt is famous for its pyramids but I love the culture, people, and its turquoise seas too. Lots of tourist attractions in Alexandria, Luxor, Hurghada, and the capital, Cairo, Egypt is highly recommended for your next vacation.
Tanzania
Tanzania is one of my favorite east African tourist destinations and it has some of Africa’s best tourist sites. Zanzibar Island in Tanzania is an archipelago of historic Indian Ocean islands, awash with intrigue and idyllic beach experiences. Zanzibar is picturesque. You’ll love every minute of your stay.
Preparation is key to ensuring a safe and memorable adventure. This applies to all solo travelers but traveling while female comes with its own set of challenges. Proper planning has ensured that my solo adventures have remained free of major pitfalls and disasters. These practical tips may help you do the same.
One of my mantras is, every woman should travel solo far from home, and solo, once in their lives. Solo travel will not only help you gain self-confidence ‘back in the real world’, it will help you to feel far more confident than you ever thought possible.
Tips for Solo Women Adventure Travellers
As far as destinations go, be informed. Certain countries and cities may contain more risks than others, and that risk can change over time.
Travel Light
As a backpacker, I’m a big fan of travelling light and only using carry-on luggage. Backpacks are great depending on trip style and duration. The less you carry, the more you can manage on your own and keep a free hand.
Safety First
Wear clothing with concealed pockets and consider using a money belt or neck pouch. Stash copies of passports in your suitcase and keep your luggage locked. Try to arrive before dark, particularly in a new and unfamiliar destination.
Plan Ahead
Book your accommodations in advance so you know where you’ll be sleeping each night. Plan your transportation and walking routes as much as possible so you know where you’re going and when you’ll get there. And finally, read and research every destination beforehand. Check particularly if it is safe for female travelers. Alternatively, join some all-girls travel groups on social media and ask for tips and reviews about the places you plan to visit.
