“FEMMES ET PRISONS D’AFRIQUE” is an NGO created in 2016 and working for the well-being of women in prison. This Association was born out of the prison journeys of both Ms Khady Sy/Ouedraogo, President of the association, who was sentenced to 6 months in prison at the Ouagadougou house of arrest and correction for refusal to comply and Fatoumata Therese DIAWARA, the Secretary General.
Diawara, was accused of complicity in violating the state security and in treason in the failed case of the 2015 coup in Burkina Faso. This incarceration awakened the human rights activist in her. Diawara was discharged and acquitted on charges of unincorporated crime after she suffered 5 years of stigmatization and travel ban.
FemInStyle Africa sat down for a conversation with Diawara.
